Haudenosaunee influence on the women’s suffrage movement with Michelle Schenandoah

LWV Steuben Winter Brunch: Haudenosaunee influence on the women’s suffrage movement, Saturday, February 3, 2018, United Church, 201 N. Hamilton St., Painted Post. After a short business meeting, Michelle Schenandoah will speak about the rights and freedoms possessed by Haudenosaunee women, how these rights provided a model for early European American women’s rights activists and how these rights continue to inspire us today. Business meeting at 11:00 am. Brunch at 11:30. Presentation at 12:00 Noon. The public is welcome to attend the program. $10 suggested donation. Bring a dish to pass. Finding Voice: Resisting Deadly Exchanges, Monday, February 5, 2018, 6:30-8:30 PM, USW Union Hall, 100 Nasser Civic Center Plaza, Corning. Beth Harris from Jewish Voice for Peace will speak about JVP's work with marginalized communities, and the deadly falsehood that violence against some communities will create security for others. Women’s Suffrage Centennial in New York

November 6, 1917 - November 6, 2017

Four important 100 year anniversaries for women's suffrage:

  • New York women secured the right to vote on November 6, 1917
  • LWVNY founded on November 19, 1919
  • LWVUS founded on February 14, 1920
  • American women secured the right to vote with the certification of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution on August 26, 1920
